Eels in the Azores: Trapping, Tagging and Tracking
Andy Don (Environment Agency)

This year has been a bleak one because of Covid-19 and the London Branch has been unable to hold the programme of meetings and events planned, including its prestigious Annual Sherry Evening (ASE) with a buffet and wine and talk, normally held around this time of year. However, here is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join a virtual ASE meeting on Zoom with two presentations on eels from two knowledgeable and entertaining speakers, Darryl Clifton-Dey and Andy Don. We hope you will be able to join us for the evening, but apologise that you will have to supply your own wine and hors-d’œuvre!

Eels in the Thames – Darryl Clifton-Dey will talk about the fascinating history of eels and eel fishing in the Thames Estuary and throughout its catchment. He will then discuss the changes that have occurred in recent decades as eel recruitment has declined and the management responses made in the Thames catchment.
Eels in the Azores – Andy Don will talk about the mysteries still surrounding the life cycle and oceanic migrations of the European eel. He will focus on discussing recent studies on the Atlantic migration of silver eels, involving trapping, tagging and tracking in the region of the Azores.
The virtual event will start at 19.30 UK time
The event is free for all, you don’t have to be an IFM or London Branch Member to attend but you must register in advance to be sent the link.
