European eel found in Japanese eel dishes

According to news and Japanese Yahoo! (headlines.yahoo.co.jp), European eel (Anguilla anguilla) was found in eel dishes of food chains “Sukiya” and “Nakau”.

The study was published by Associate Professor Yoshinaga of the Kitasato University.

Owner of the food chains “Zensho Holdings Co., Ltd.” claimed that eels were purchased from Tunisia and Morocco and that the shipments came along with CITES permits.
