CITES statement on sustainable use of wildlife

At CMS in Manila a joint statement with CITES has been published.

“CITES is a legally binding international agreement that regulates international trade in wildlife. Recognized in the “The Future We Want” adopted at Rio+20 as standing at the intersection between trade, the environment and development, it promotes the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and ensures the sustainable use of biodiversity and ensures that trade in wildlife does not threaten the survival of species. CITES neither encourages nor discourages trade, but regulates it when it does take place to ensure that it is legal, sustainable and traceable.”
